History of Classic Cable Car Sightseeing.
Timeline:
1958 – Arnold Stirewalt Gridley purchases, at auction, cable cars from the California Street Cable Car Line. Launches Cable Car Charters, the first motorized cable car company in America.
Mid-1960s – Cable Car Charters is selected the transportation company for the Bob Hope Pebble Beach Classic.
1980s – Now with over 60 cable cars, Cable Car Charters is the largest motorized cable car company in the world.
2004 – Arnold Gridley passes away on May 8th. The Gridley family continues to operate the business.
2008 – The Gridley family partners with Ride The Ducks International to form Cable Car Partners. Acting as the managing partner, RTDI rebrands the business Classic Cable Cars. Owned by the Herschend Family, Cable Car Partners remains family owned.
Ride The Ducks International is the nation's largest operator of amphibious tours. Our mission is to "create Quack-tasticsm memories worth repeating"™ by offering our guests an entertainment sightseeing experience that is fun, informative and engaging.
The Ride The Ducks fleet exceeds 75 vehicles, carrying over 1,200,000 guests each year around the United States.
Ride The Ducks introduced its popular duck tour to the San Francisco market in July, 2008. It also operates from the corner of Taylor and Jefferson Streets across from the famous Fisherman's Wharf sign.
Ride The Ducks is a Herschend Family Entertainment company and is headquartered just outside Atlanta in Norcross, Georgia.
